NCERT 11th – India : Physical Environment
This is the most important book among all NCERTs.
We suggest doing this book completely. The most important chapters from this book are-
- Structure and Physiography
- Drainage System
- Climate
- Natural Vegetation
- Soils
The above listed chapters are so important that in case you miss a sentence, you are probably missing answer to a question in Prelims. These chapters should be revised properly.
NCERT 11th – Fundamentals of Physical Geography
This is the second most important NCERT book in Geography.

- Composition and Structure of Atmosphere
- Solar Radiation, Heat Balance and Temperature
- Atmospheric Circulation and Weather Systems
- Water in the Atmosphere
- World Climate and Climate Change
- Water (Oceans)
- Movements of Ocean Water
- Life on the Earth
- Biodiversity and Conservation
Focus on Cyclones topic in Atmospheric Circulation and Weather Systems- Important because of Cyclone Fani which hit India recently on Eastern Coast.
Cyclone should be studied in detail from any other reference book.
Chapters 9,10 and 14 are the most important chapters.
NCERT 12th – Fundamentals of Human Geography
- Primary Activities
- Secondary Activities
- Tertiary and Quaternary Activities
Chapter number 4- Human Development is also important but generally questions related to the topic come in Prelims rather than the content in Ncert.
Related topics like Human Development Index, Gender related Development Index,etc should be done.
NCERT 12th – India People and Economy
- Land Resources and Agriculture
- Water Resources
- Mineral and Energy Resources
- Manufacturing Industries
- Planning and Sustainable Development in Indian Context
