UPSC has been focussing on marine animals from Indian subcontinent and Indian ocean in last few years. Questions have come almost every year such as Ganegtic Dolphins,Dugong Dugong, Kharai Camels(Swimming camels), Gharials,etc.
Humped Dolphins were spotted recently near Mumbai Coast and are an endangered species & come under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act,1972.
Indus Dolphins- Recently declared as Punjab’s State Aquatic Animal.They come under endangered species category and small population is found in River Beas.

The analysis covers many aspects before putting any topic on the probable list which we are not going to write in detail as to why it’s on the probable list(so that time of students is saved from unnecessary reading).
For example, Idu Mishmi Tribe mentioned above is important not only because of being a PVTG in news,but because the news on Idu Mishmi Tribes is related to a “to be declared” tiger reserve in North East India(Dibang Wildlife Sanctuary,Arunachal Pradesh).
